Her licensed family dayhome is thoughtfully arranged with dedicated indoor learning and play spaces, along with direct access to a large, fully fenced backyard for safe outdoor exploration year-round.

Conveniently located in the heart of Mount Pleasant, just off 20th Avenue NW, families benefit from easy curbside pickup and drop-off. Nearby parks, schools, and community amenities make this neighborhood especially family-friendly.

Licensed to care for up to six registered children at a time, Ms. Filita ensures small group sizes and personalized attention. Each day is balanced with structured learning and free play, including activities from the Discovery Tots curriculum, storytime, crafts, music, outdoor play, and imaginative games such as building, puzzles, and role-play.

Enrichment opportunities such as the Puppy Program and Music Time with our in-house music teacher give children the chance to develop empathy, rhythm, creativity, and social skills in engaging ways.

I opened Discovery Tots Mount Pleasant because of my deep passion for early childhood development and my desire to create a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment where children can learn through play and exploration. I believe that young children thrive in smaller, more personalized settings where their individual needs and interests are truly recognized. Opening a dayhome has allowed me to combine my love for teaching with my commitment to supporting families in the community by offering high-quality, home-based care that feels like an extension of their family.

With five years of experience and both Level 1 and Level 2 certifications (with Level 3 in progress), I bring dedication and intentionality to every part of our day. My program is built around play-based learning, creativity, and social-emotional growth, helping children develop confidence, curiosity, and a sense of belonging.

What makes my dayhome special is the personal connection I build with each child and family. I provide a warm, home-like environment where children feel safe, loved, and encouraged to express themselves. I also incorporate cultural inclusivity, nature exploration, and meaningful routines that nurture independence and joy in learning.

What I love most about working with children is witnessing their growth and the joy they bring to everyday moments. Their curiosity, honesty, and creativity inspire me daily. It’s so rewarding to see them discover new skills, solve problems, and express themselves in unique ways. Their laughter and excitement remind me why this work is so meaningful.

A little about me: I love storytelling and music, and often create songs or use puppets during circle time to make learning fun. I also enjoy gardening and nature walks, and I bring that love of the outdoors into our program—whether we’re exploring leaves and bugs in the backyard or talking about the seasons.

One of my favourite quotes that inspires my approach is from Loris Malaguzzi:

“The child has a hundred languages, a hundred hands, a hundred thoughts, a hundred ways of thinking, of playing, of speaking.”

This quote beautifully captures my belief that every child is capable, creative, and full of potential. I strive to create a space where children feel empowered to explore all those “hundred languages” in their own way.
